Dishwasher Repair

A clogged filter or drain hose is the most common cause — food debris builds up and blocks drainage. A failing drain pump or a kinked drain hose can also prevent water from exiting. Always clean your dishwasher filter monthly to prevent this.

Hard water deposits (calcium and magnesium) are the primary culprit in Michigan. Using a rinse aid and a dishwasher cleaner monthly helps. If the spray arms are clogged with mineral deposits, dishes won't get rinsed properly — we can clean or replace them.

Clogged spray arms, a failing wash pump, insufficient water temperature (should be 120°F minimum), or a malfunctioning detergent dispenser are common causes. Also check that dishes aren't blocking the spray arm rotation.

A worn door gasket is the most common cause of door leaks. Internal leaks often come from a cracked pump housing or loose hose connections. Too much detergent or the wrong type (don't use dish soap!) also causes excessive suds and overflow.

Check that the door is fully latched — the door switch is a safety interlock and must engage completely. Other causes include a tripped circuit breaker, a failed control panel, or a blown thermal fuse.

For machines under 8 years old, repair is almost always worthwhile. Many common repairs — pump, spray arm, door gasket — cost far less than replacement. We'll give you a straight comparison so you can decide.
